Bike parking at Grigio MetroBike parking at Grigio Metro
Image by Steven Vance About these bike racks: Notice how they're permanently installed in the concrete. I like this and I don't. I like that they're permanent and it would be difficult and expensive for someone to remove them, thus they will have a long life serving bicyclists living and visiting the apartment complex here (as well as the light rail station, which has no parking of its own, except maybe at the far end of the platform *doh*). I don't like that they're permanent because it's difficult (and expensive) to remove and replace them if a motorist "exits the roadway" and damages them. I love that the developer (either of the apartment complex or the train) installed so many bike parking spaces! You can see at least 30 spaces in this photo! I don't love that they chose a short and round tube design. Short bike racks don't support the top tube of many bicycles, and round tubes can be cut easily. Rental apartments in a mixed use, transit oriented development near downtown Tempe, Arizona, from Gray Development. Adjacent to the McClintock/Apache train station on the Valley Metro light rail line.
